There is a moment before every ride when nothing has happened yet.

The helmet is still on the table. The phone is still in someone’s hand. The route has not been chosen. The group has not taken off. The bike has not reached speed. A friend has not said, “Come on, let’s go faster,” or “Just ride on the back,” or “It’s only a short ride.”
